It kept me entertained. It falls into the same subsection of books that I put "Wifey" (one of Judy Blume's adult novels that just doesn't have the beauty and symmetry of a good Blume read... such as "Summer Sisters"... yes, I loved "Summer Sisters"), "Shadow of the Dolls", the unauthorized sequel to Jacqueline Susann's "Valley of the Dolls" (which itself is a novel that is in a less prestigious subsection as Valley of The Dolls is, IMO), & that other early 2000's "multiple story collection" novel: The Powerbook (Jeanette Winterson). All books that I would take to read on a beach, along with a large sunhat & a thermos full of vodka & grapefruit juice. Good reads, yes, but not what I would consider classics.

One of the problems I have with most of the characters in "Four Blondes" is the fact that I don't like any of them really. I felt a little bad for Winnie Dieke's husband at one point in their story... then later not so much and not even for the obvious reason. The story I enjoyed the most is probably "Platinum", the story about Princess Cecelia Kelly Luxenstein, who seems to prefer being bombed on Xanaxes & coke to being a part of the Manhattan social elite (I agree with you that I can't think of anyone real who would want to be a part of that whole scene). That said while it's probably the most interesting story in "Four Blondes" (to me at least) this is also a story that reminds me of the level of prose my writer friends and I were writing in highschool, back when everyone wanted to become a professional writer. In fact, if someone had handed me "Platinum" printed on computer paper in Helvetica 12 pt (bc we didn't want to use Times New Roman in high school) I probably would have thought the story was just that, a leftover from someone's high school writing attempts. In fact I'd probably be surprised it wasn't covered with red pencil note marks from the English teacher the writer had talked into editing it, or blot marks and stains from having bong water and cigarette ash spilled on it during college & slightly yellowed paper from being stored away with English 101 papers & MUSC 112 essays in a trunk where old college stuff was kept. It's just not the level of writing I expect from Bushnell.

Though frankly I always kind of thought that the original "Sex in the City" novel wasn't as good as it was made out to be. Which is pretty sad, when HBO makes a TV series out of a book, & the series turns out to be better than the book. It's supposed to be the other way around. Still, "Four Blondes" is an okay read.
